The Smogon Story

A lot of people have been asking me who Smogon is and what he's done to be so hated, so being the one who knows Smogon since he started, I figured I'd share the Smogon story.

Smogon used to be known as Vineon. Vineon was a battler, he started battling on older PBSs and mIRC. Vineon was known for being a very illogical person and used his temper to try to get people to ignore his poor English skills (Which are apparent when he types). Vineon however, was a battler and it seemed he was decent at it, as he made a name for himself at the Gamefaqs community.

Eventually, Vineon was IMd by a battler named GGFan. GGFan was an upcoming battler who was rising through the ranks and had made a name for himself when he won TOS1. Vineon didn't take kindly when he asked GGFan who he thought was the best battler and GGFan said himself. GGFan thought Vineon wouldn't be so thickheaded and stupid to think GGFan was being serious, but Vineon did and thus began Vineon's plot to sabotage GGFan.

Later in the year, the IBT was coming up, it was a tournament that involved 4 communities. GGFan was one of the best battlers in Gamefaqs and it seemed like he was going to get in, but that changed when Vineon's alt, Nitro, became captain. Vineon proclaimed that the reason GGFan didn't get in was because GGFan was "relatively unknown to the battling universe". Even though this didn't make any sense as by that logic, there was no reason MetalMew should have gotten on the team as GGFan had been around pretty much as long as he was and Remnant had been on Gamefaqs for maybe 3 months.

It also revealed the blatant politics on display, as Vineon tried using his alts to get people to believe this should be about getting old people to play and not people that actually properly represent their communities.

GGFan didn't just sit there, GGFan caused a massive flamewar on the topic in Gamefaqs. Vineon introduced alts into the argument when he had some of his first alts such as Chaos Valentine, red13n, Moogleman and Fish to defend him. So GGFan thought it would be fair to fight fire with fire.

Vineon did all he could to try and get people to believe GGFan's alt, Cool Poke, was him. Eventually, GGFan got bored of the stupidity being displayed by another Vineon alt, Yurika, IMing him all the time about it, so GGFan gave Vineon a clue and Vineon acted like it was a revelation, almost as if he couldn't figure out that a firetruck is red.

Vineon and his alts would remain on the board, shortly after the IBT, but they were not well liked by everyone. Eventually they left but Vineon had a bigger plan in mind to sabotage GGFan. GGFan had continued battling and continued winning tournaments and beating people left and right, establishing himself as a great RBYer.

Vineon noticed this and ultimately decided that the best way to sabotage GGFan would be to diminish his victories, and would use his alts to get people to do so which would also influence people who seemingly were stupid to apply any kind of logic, which sadly consisted of many people, since it is the internet after all.

Vineon would eventually begin spreading that the only tournaments GGFan won, were tournaments with his alts. All along, GGFan did nothing but rig tournaments with his alts. The logic was stupid and moronic but Vineon, being a high figure, knew people would believe it, and it worked. But this logic didn't come without it's flaws. By this logic, GGFan did get in the IBT all along, in fact all along, GGFan was the winner of the IBT, since Hipmonlee was now his alt apparently. Vineon knew he needed more than this, so he decided to go further.

Vineon came up with a way to diminish how GGFan responded to the trolls that were trying to overtake the Pokemon Blue board, and said all GGFans responses were "reversals", this didn't make any sense at all but that's just the way Vineon liked it, and enforced this logic with his alt, Roy Master. It didn't last very long though.

Vineon tried to get people to believe GGFan had numerous alts, so people would ignore his blatant alts, but GGFan continued to battle and continued to win tournaments. In 2004, Vineon and GGFan would battle for the first time, when GGFan beat one of his oldest alts, Yurika, 4-0 on Netbattle. Vineon on his main, also left the main server after his alt Yurika did. Vineon, infuriated by this, took it upon himself to make himself a server, Blue Heaven.

On Blue Heaven Vineon made himself admin and made sure to tell people about GGFan, which of course the 10 year olds surely would, as anything an admin says must be true. GGFan was not a constant NBer so it didn't really matter, and GGFan went on to win TOS3. Vineons plan was wearing off, as Blue Heaven was just a server, Vineon needed something bigger. Vineon thought long and hard, and came up with a website. A website that people would follow and go to, this website would be known as....Smogon.

Vineon quickly made alt after alt, some of his alts on Gamefaqs were made for Smogon. There were a few people, there to support the cause. He used up his whole days to make analysis after analysis and thus, Smogon was born. Some of Vineons alts on Gamefaqs were advertising Smogon, which would become trademark, so GGFan headed there what it was about, and GGFan wasn't very impressed.

Vineon knew he had the tools, so he had to begin his plot to fully sabotage GGFan, and came up with one that he thought was foolproof.

As GGFan's first and foremost alt, I will have to say that this fine piece of literature should be published as a Child's Book and spread through the international world.

Now where did I leave off? Ah yes.

Vineon, being several people at the same time, was appropriately referred to as Smogon. Smogon came up with a plan to get rid of GGFan once and for all, Smogons plan was give GGFan a virus. GGFan was running an anti Smogon server and was seeing how many idiots he could lure into spamming Smogons server because he would admin them for their efforts, GGFan enjoyed quite the laugh as he got 30 or so people to and Smogon got pissed off and posted in the topic as his chaos alt, telling the people to stop spamming Smogons server.

Smogon thought that he could get GGFan to download a virus which would serve as virus protection, but sadly, it didn't work and GGFan, typically being ahead of Smogons stupidity as usual, decided to have some fun, and acted as if he willingly downloaded the program, but nothing happened, and Smogon thought that GGFan now had a virus and that his computer was destroyed. Smogon and his alts rejoiced and celebrated, but their celebration came to an end when GGFan posted the very next day, GGFans computer was supposed to have been destroyed, and supposedly GGFan could only access things in safe mode.

Smogon, looking like the village idiots once again, closed the thread in which he thought GGFan got a virus and out of nowhere, bumped an old topic about GGFan in an attempt to cover his own ass. Smogon laid his eyes on GGFans community, when GGFan decided to give it publicity at Smogons expense. Smogon made another blunder, as he thought mocking GGFans revival of Message Board would destroy it, but instead, Message Board came back with booming activity and was soon to be renamed to The Alternative. Smogon came up with another idea, to belittle The Alternative.

Smogon would go as far to say that The Alternative consists of nothing but GGFans alts, but this statement would look even dumber and dumber as more people from Smogon would wind up joining The Alternatives tournaments, and The Alternative continued to grow, The Alternative even going as far enough to get exposure internationally and GGFan hosting one of the most revolutionary tournaments ever, the IRBYT.

Smogon, being delusional as ever, continues to try and get people to believe THE Alternative consists of nothing but GGFans alts and GGFan does nothing but battle his alts, but his campaign has failed miserably and jealously of GGFan making himself end up being the outcast in the end. It has been highly believed that Smogon is mentally ill and homosexual due to these events.

Some other facts about Smogon:

-Smogon is a HUGE Rhapthorne fan, even going as far enough to copy Rhapthornes pre battle speech when GGFan made Smogon look like idiots when his virus plot failed. It is also rumored that the Koffing was a tribute to Rhapthorne.

-Smogon's primary tactic is to use cliches such as saying GGFan has alts and generally repeating this to the point where it is tiring. It is also known for being incredibly idiotic and as a lame attempt to basically erase GGFan from Pokemon.

-Smogon once tried challenging GGFan after GGFan won the Summer Gamefaqs UU tournament, Smogon IMd GGFan under one of his many screen names and had a possible alt or paid off person named McGraw face GGFan, but GGFan won 3-0.

-Smogon has the most AIM screen names in history with over 500.

-Smogon created other communities to back them up and make them look good, such as PokeRealm, A.K.A SmogonJr and AAMS, A.K.A TP.

-Smogon had a dispute with SmogonJr when SmogonJr stole from Smogon, which was odd because SmogonJr is the same thing as Smogon anyway, just smaller and more annoying. Kind of like a Chihuahua!

To sum up Smogon, long before it was created GGFan became disliked by Vineon who had a bad reputation on the Pokemon Blue board. GGFan didn't like the politics of a tournament going on called the IBT, and was against it after they politicked him out. However, Vineon decided to use this as if changed GGFan or something, but it was just a dumb insult which would eventually become known as a Smogonism (tactics that Smogon created use to flame GGFan that don't make any sense, such as the claims made by ruesap).

When Smogon was created, it contained many of the politicans and disliked people from the Blue Heaven server, and GGFan got on the nerves of the Smogon admins. Eventually GGFan made THE Alternative and gave it publicity out of Smogon's expense, and alot of people knew about the site. THE Alternative's analyses became very well known and THE Alternative revitalized RBY.

GGFan eventually caught Smogon stealing from his analyses, and Vineon made the GGFan story out of panic, as it came out right after everyone got word of what Smogon did. GGFan made a parody of it called the Smogon story which became very popular.

Smogon is known for using alts to try and sabotage communities and people such as GGFan. Many people feel that posters such as ruesap, nidoking and Bosgoed are alts of Hasire, a user who is obsessed with Smogon. It's been proven time after time that they are alts because they contradict themselves for the reasons they say that GGFan has alts.
