And we have reached the finals of the 2007 Alternaversary, the tournament that celebrates 2 years of THE Alternative. This tournament has been like a bumpy road, full of ups and downs. I've had people battle at the last minute, had to make DQs in imperative battles and have gotten to see some quality battles. Now we are down to just 2, a cornerstone of THE Alternative and a long time TA member who has yet to have his "definitive" moment.
SamG
This is not SamGs first rodeo; he was in the finals of last years Alternaversary, making both of them have two things in common; SamG being in the finals and me getting haxed out of the tournament. SamG has "won the big one" before when me and him flat out dominated in the TTS and when he went 9-0-9 in the revolutionary IRBYT, being in the big game is familiar territory for one Samuel Girard. Now he is once again in the finals of the Alternaversary, he wasn't able to get it done last year, he's looking to get it done this year. To do so he must get past Yellow, the one who SamG beat in last years semi finalist. They are good friends outside of the heated online Pokemon circuit but there are no friends here, that's for sure.
SamG has went from "just another" user on Gamefaqs to one of the greatest battlers in THE Alternatives history. When I first discovered SamG on Gamefaqs, how could I have imagined what he would accomplish in the years to come? When he started out, he was an upcoming battler with another individual by the name of Amaranth, even though I thought Amaranth was better, SamG would be the one to stick around where he would be part of THE Alternatives first tournament, the RPT back in December of 2005. Now SamG is looking to win this tournament and add another jewel to his crown.
Yellow
How funny it is that Yellow is in the finals! Yellow had originally dropped out of the tournament in the second round and gave Necavi the win, in fact I had posted the semi finals with Necavi in it. But thanks to nobody being able to battle, the next day I noticed that Necavi and Yellow were on. Since it was Monday, the final day battles could be done and the deadline hadn't passed, I gave Yellow the chance to reconsider and he did, Yellow took advantage of the opportunity and managed to defeat Necavi, now he finds himself in the finals!
It was one year ago when Yellow made his debut in THE Alternative, when I let him join the 2006 Alternaversary. Yellow at that time was a complete random who had incredibly miniscule experience as a battler, but I gave him the opportunity and let him join the tournament. In round one he was up against veteran battler and finalist of the 2006 RBY League, aDORKable/MeThOd. Yellow opened up a lot of eyes when he managed to overcome a huge gap in experience, putting an immediate springboard to his Pokecareer as he was in the semi finals of one of the biggest tournaments of the year.
In the semi finals he went up against SamG, who at that time was looking for his "definitive moment", much like Yellow is now. Despite losing, Yellow gave SamG a run for his money and we all knew Yellow had tons of potential as a battler, and from there he would go on to have a respectable and successful career in THE Alternative, reaching the finals of the NITRT when he went up against Smogon superstar ViL in the finals and qualified to represent THE Alternative in the IRBYT. However, he has yet to win the "big one" and to do so must defeat his good friend SamG. Can Yellow finally achieve what he has yearned to do for a year now?
Good luck guys, currently no deadline.
