Ok, so I played SamG today. He tried using his Wrap Dragonite on me only to get a Tauros Blizzard in the face. Then he sends out Cloyster, which the only reason it's used is because of Clamp. I get two chances for a paraslam and I don't get it. I was playing pretty well against SamG but because of Clamp now he'll probably win. Luckily Clamp missed on my Snorlax but I failed to get a paraslam in my third turn in a row.
Clamp misses again and I Hyper Beam it into oblivion. Lax blows up on sleeping Victreebel and an easy 3-0 win turns into a 1-0 win because of a theme that takes very little skill to pull off, Wrap/Clamp. So what I don't understand is, why whine about OHKOs when Wrap/Clamp is basically the pussy version of those moves? They have glaring similarities.
1) Both only work if you're faster than the opponent. Yes, you can still use Wrap if you're slower but why the fuck would you?
2) All it takes is a simple click to pull off. There's really no thinking with these moves. You just attack and hope you connect.
3) If you don't connect you get attacked and possibly crushed.
4) Both take virtually no skill to pull off and revolves around luck.
5) Both are countered by simply being faster or paralyzing the opponent.
6) Switching to Gengar counters two of these moves (Horn Drill and Guillotine for the OHKOs, Wrap and Bind for the constricted ones) but not all of them (Fissure for the OHKOs, Clamp and Fire Spin for the constricted ones).
Seriously, why ban OHKOs then? Don't tell me "o u can do sumthin about wrap/clamp but u cant against ohkos". Of course you can do something about OHKOs, you counter them the same way you counter Wrap/Clamp/Fire Spin/etc. Read number 5. OHKO is a free kill with a 30% chance, Wrap/Clamp is free damage with at least a 75% chance. Just spam the move enough and then you can set up for a kill. What's the difference?
A lot of people seem to use this technique and think it's some kind of Godsend but these are the same people who cringe at OHKOs. If you're going to use this move, as I said before was a pussy version of OHKOs, don't ban them and let me pull out my Fissure Dugtrio since it's basically the same thing except it gets to the point quicker, I want to kill you with virtually no technique.
Phew, good thing The Alternative does it's best not to ban OHKOs in our tournaments. But after all, we are the number one RBY community. Better yet, if you ban OHKOs, ban these moves as well since they're basically the same thing. That's what I might do because quite frankly I only see one difference between these moves; An OHKO is just one attack (duh) Wrap/Clamp/FireSpin/Other pussy version of OHKO usually involves another attack.
Oh wait OHKOs work in conjunction with T-Wave and Agility, oops!
