Snorlax
Type/s: Normal
Set 1: Curselax
Nature: Adament / Careful
Snorlax@Leftovers
Body Slam / Return / Double-Edge
Earthquake / Shadow Ball / Fire Blast / Sleep Talk
Curse
Rest / Selfdestruct
The basic Snorlax, and it is really predictable, but that doesn't stop it from being a real meta-game threat. After a couple of Curses Snorlax can dominate. 'Last Pokemon Snorlax' can win games if done right. Snorlax is a great Pokemon. Use it to wall special attacks with its great HP and Special Defence.
Bring this thing in on any special attacks and Curse up. Rest when you need to. This thing is only getting stopped by a hazer or phaser like Skarmory and Weezing after it sets up. Snorlax is going to wall just about any special attacker and with a Curse it can beat up on mixed attackers also.
You can use Return for the extra power, but generaly paralyzis is better. Truthfully Snorlax will be doing enough without Return anyway. Earthquake is more for Tyranitar and Metagross switch ins while Shadow Ball is almost purely for Gengar. Rest is usually used over Selfdestruct but you can give your opponent a good surprise if you use Selfdestruct, and surprises are good especially when you plan it at the right time. If you are using Double-Edge only use it with Sleep Talk... Obviously Sleep talk goes with Rest, but if you choose Sleep Talk expect to be walled easily.
The main Pokemon that are going to counter this Snorlax are Metagross, Skarmory, Weezing, Celebi, and Tyranitar. Snorlax can't really switch in or stay in on a physical attacker without some Curses up either, so that is worth noting. Snorlax also does a hampered job of walling special attacks when it needs to switch in on full powered Spikes. Just be warned that Tyranitar and Metagross can't keep switching in on predicted Earthquakes, and the counters aren't always full proof.
Snorlax has a variety of EVs he can use. Because of that I won't post specific EVs. Instead I will post key stats to reach. Remember that this is stats and not EVs.
HP: 496, 501, 512
Attack: 256, 270, 280, 290, 300
Defence: 166, 200
Special Defence: 300, 310, 320
Set 2: Mixlax
Nature: Sassy
Snorlax@Leftovers
Body Slam
Earthquake / Focus Punch
Fire Blast
Selfdestruct / Rest
If you can predict well this set is a beast. It doesn't really sweep, but it can kill a lot anyway because of the surprise factor.
Snorlax can still come in on any special attack with this set, but what you do next is now more important. Try to predict what is coming next. If you thing Tyranitar or Metagross is coming give them a Focus Punch or Earthquake. You don't really need to predict Skarmory, though. Snorlax usually won't live as long, however. It also can't sweep.
If you want Earthquake it will cover more... Focus Punch is really just for Tyranitar. If you want to use Rest go ahead. Snorlax will last longer. However with Selfdestruct Snorlax will get a free KO if you time the Explosion at the right time. Also note that Shadow Ball isn't needed. Fire Blast is doing enough to Gengar.
For the particular Snorlax set Metagross has an easy time coming in especially, and Snorlax isn't going to be able to tank as long. If you can predict what Snorlax will use it becomes useless really.
Again, EVs are variable. Use the same stuff as before, but this time focus more in Special Defense and less in Defense. You don't need any Special Attacking EVs... Fire Blast is doing a great amount to Skarmory already. Just make sure you don't give Snorlax a Special Attack lowering nature.
Set 3: Resttalker
Nature: Adament / Careful
Snorlax@Leftovers
Double-Edge
Earthquake / Shadow Ball
Rest
Sleep Talk
This is one of the 3 main Snorlax sets. This Snorlax can take a load of attacks and dish them out pretty hard. I am not going to go indepth with this one because I don't need to.
This Snorlax works as a Sleep absorber. It is good at it because it can take attacks really well. It doesn't have a sweeping element and it can't do much with surprises, but in its own right it is a great set.
The counters to this set are the same as the Curselax set, but it will still stay around for a really long time. Even with Spikes around Snorlax is going to take hits and dish out fairly well. This is a great addition to a team when there are a lot of sleepers going around.
Alternative sets:
The above sets will cover your basic needs, but Snorlax can do other things. I won't give big commentaries for them because they aren't as good as the above three sets. Note that these are all with leftovers.
SubPuncher:
Substitute
Focus Punch
Body Slam / Return
Shadow Ball / Rest
The problem with this set is that Snorlax won't live long at all even if Rest is used. It is good for some surprises, but if you want something long-lasting don't use this thing. It does have an element of surprise and is easy to use, though. Skarmory and Metagross counter this set well.
Counter:
Counter
Body Slam / Return
Selfdestruct / Rest
Focus Punch / Shadow Ball / Return
This set is pretty cool. Usually people will switch to a physical attacker to hit Snorlax, and this is the set's advantage. Selfdestruct is better than Rest because this Snorlax isn't meant to live long, and after a counter he becomes predictable. After taking an attack Snorlax will explode soon. Predict that and you are set.
There is also CBLax:
Snorlax@Choice Band
Earthquake
Return / Body Slam
Selfdestruct
Shadow Ball
The set hurts things really hard, but it doesn't work all that well because Snorlax won't last too long. What makes Snorlax work is his special walling abilities and his survivability. He doesn't have that here at all. Skarmory especially counters this. Other than that just predict the right move
