On August 25th, 2007, the saddest day in Pokemon history, no, the saddest day in the history of the Universe occured when Bleep decided to close Bleepland. I had gotten the e-mail from him as all members got e-mails from this shitty message board, even if their account was banned (Which mine was). I had thought that this topic was hilarious and regretted not c/ping it and posting it here. Luckily, today SamG informed me that he also got his e-mail despite being banned as well, and I was happy to see that this topic was still alive. Enjoy everyone!
I decided that I did not want to see Bleepland on life support yet again, so it's back offline for good.
RIP Bleep's Pokemon Land
Born: February 23 2005
Died: August 25 2007
February 23 2005: It began.
I still vividly remember the day I started BPL. I just finished posting something on supercheats, and noticed that Team KA Leader had a forum. I wanted Team Untouchable to be better than his. I started my own forum. Little did I know that it would stand strong for two and a half years and get into all the shit it did with supercheats, and be as popular as it was with members of the netbattle community!
For a few months, we'd get maybe twenty to thirty posts a day, which I was satisfied with. MeleeNewb joined a few months in as soon as I met him, and he helped with the activity because he was another Netbattle enthusiast!
We were pretty dead until about November 2005, which coincidentally happened to be the time that I decided BPL was long overdue for a revamp. This is when we switched to the infamous aqua skin that BPL is known for! We switched skins briefly later, but this has been the skin for the majority of our life. Moving on, I cut down on some forums such as webmasters, (why the fuck would I want other people advertising their forum on mine, anyway?) game development, and a few others. I added in the team building forum, and the graphics forum! That reaped so many benefits.
The posts per day increased drastically after this revamp, to about 120 or so. I know this isn't great compared to our prime, but we're getting there! Then throughout December and January we were doing pretty well, I was confident we’d gradually increase in size. Then Shichiro joined at the end of January. Little did I know at that time, he would be the one member that has had the most influence on the forum besides me for starting it! He immediately got to writing Pokemon analysis and helping out new members! Posts per day skyrocketed to about 500 within a few weeks. Then it was drama time.
Aeon Flux. The scum of the internet. Here is how the Bleepland-Supercheats war went, briefly.
1. Bronco was pissed Aeshma, so he made a topic about how Aeshma abuses power. He never flamed, and never swore.
2. Aeon-Flux decided to try to get brownie points with Aeshma by calling us “idiots” and “immature,” (because we liked pokemon) and by calling Aeshma (and I quote) “The greatest person I’ve ever met.” Just for the record, AeonFlux himself is a Pokemon fanatic now, just check his bio on supercheats if you want proof!
3. War ensued.
4. We stripped them of a few regulars and screwed with them because we had a lot of our members as staff in their forum.
5. I got banned for trying to reason with them. Just further proves my point!
We went on with our amazingness for the next few months, with posts per day still in the high five hundreds. Analysis were being churned out constantly, our graphics team became loaded with Blade, Overload, RJ, Metabolic, and Oblivian Groudon. GIR bought us a domain. Fuck yes. Now we weren’t just BPL the elite pokemon forum, we were BPL the assholes who could give you the best signatures on the internet, and also the best pokemon teams aside from Smogon and Pokerealm (but they didn’t even have the team building service- that has been unique to BPL throughout the years!).
Unfortunately for us, there was more drama. And this time, it involved our own forum, and one of our own super moderators- Metabolic. Most of our members probably remember him promising us a website. And I remember getting my hopes up way too much, because I trusted him… I thought it was sensible to trust my own staff for fuck’s sake, but it a dumb move. Turns out he lied about the whole thing, so I banned him. Probably a mean move on my part but we were fine until August without him.
August 2006- the turning point of Bleepland’s history. Something weird happened this month. We were going strong until this point. Then something happened and we just kind of died… Posts per day were plummeting into single digits by the end of the month. Then Kintesh somewhat revived us by giving us hope to get a website through a competition on his forum. Too bad we won it and still didn’t get a website because the asshole promising it to us decided not to respond to me… Ever.
So came September 2006. From that month to our second anniversary, Bleepland was on life support. We made a few posts a day (I’ll go out on a limb and say the average was less than 50), and had barely any pokemon analysis, graphics tutorials, team requests, or graphics requests being done. Post quality gradually deteriorated…
Then came February 2007 when I considered shutting Bleepland down for the first time. We were almost as low as we were now… I don’t really remember what exactly it was that made me keep it alive then, but that same thing isn’t coming back now.
Two year anniversary! There was a sudden resurgence of “ZOMG TWO YEARS!!!!!!!!!” so I decided not to shut it down. That was one of the reasons I remember, I know there was something else.
We were barely surviving again until about June 2007… The way BPL got fucked is analogous to the way people get fucked when they get AIDS in combination with Ebola, and brain cancer. At the end of June, I went to visit family in Philadelphia and my uncle was a douchebag and wouldn’t let me use the computer much (which contributed to a good amount of it), and people probably just got lazy. Whatever, it happened to us once, so it can happen again, right? Wrong. I came back and I noticed Bleepland somewhat dead.
Then one of my second cousins died in a car accident. I left for LA for a week with quite literally NO notice. I didn’t even get to pack anything- I had to blow money on clothes there. I wasted two weeks of my life for a person no one in my family has ever seen. I missed two L1 tennis tournaments, I couldn’t do my summer work, and I let BPL die more.
Now we come to BPL as it is now.
-We lost our GFX team.
-We lost the Team Building Crew that would usually churn out teams in less than 24 hours.
-DP killed us, barely any analysis have been posted.
-People stopped posting.
-Posts that were made were spam.
We’ve hit rock bottom, and every previous attempt I made to revive it had failed.
August 25 2007: Bleepland’s death.
Before I move on to the emotional part, I’d like to thank a few (ok, many) people:
Shichiro- Helping to bring BPL to what it was a year ago. The day he joined, I recall getting at least one hundred more posts than usual, and the following week BPL’s posts-per-day count was off the charts. An overall great guy. I think I speak for everyone when I say it’s been a pleasure to get to know him so well.
Solace- For sticking with us from the very beginning. Probably the most dedicated member to the forum, aside from me because I created it ;_;.
MeleeNewb- For being probably the best e-friend I’ve had, and being dedicated through BPL’s entire life.
Kirby- Adding some porn to the forum. But really livening it up, and adding humor!
RJ- For staying dedicated. Willing to leave supercheats to defend BPL, a real trooper. I don’t really care that he went back, but he showed some guts.
Shiny Metagross- Sticking with us for the whole duration of his membership, adding pokemon insight, and being a cool guy.
MasterMilotic- One word: Dedication
Dark Dragonite- Adding nigganometry to BPL’s life. Funny guy, knowledgable, great staff, it’s unfortunate that he had to leave so suddenly.
Drayano- another very good e-friend. I’m sure he’s grateful that I got him into Zelda, and I’m grateful that he helped to shape BPL into what it was in its prime.
TUHacker- I pissed him the fuck off on TPL, but we ended up becoming great friends online. Prime example of being a cool guy because he has no interest in pokemon whatsoever, but was still able to chill with us!
Sunflora Weak- Azn. GFX. Enough said.
Thunda- contributed a lot to the pokemon section, helped with analysis and team building. Funny guy, same situation as with DD- Sad to see him leave to early.
GIR- The domain was probably one of the factors that propelled us into the heavens last year, and GIR is the only person we can thank for that. However… he pissed me the FUCK off by lying to me to take 20 dollars that Cavetroll gave me for the domain.
Rekt- eRekt. Cool dude, contributed a lot, should have elited him but I was way too lazy.
Fwank- Probably my second e-friend ever. Sarenji being the first (but he never contributed to BPL so he doesn’t matter in this farewell message). He made noob-bashing infinitely more fun
Sk- Noob to Riches story. I’ve known this guy for since his supercheats days back in 2005… Initially taking him under my wing was my pleasure, and seeing him succeed in pokemoning has been amazing.
Bronco- Aside from his random 3-4 month hiatuses from pokemon, bronco has been with us since the beginning and has contributed a lot to the site.
Chopstix- I think he came from ZedFive? I don’t know really! He’s been there to add humor to the forum at every possible point, and has stuck with us since the day he joined.
SS5 Vegito- In the same category as Solace and Meleenewb. SS5 was an administrator of BPL at one point, and did a lot for the site. He constantly contributed to the pokemon sections, and would give his feedback whenever someone needed help or if it was just a general chat topic.
Dewgong- GFXer, Humor-adder, nigger. Dewgong is probably best known for his GFX skills, and his great personality.
Guitarplayerx930- Besides shichiro, GP probably had the biggest influence on BPL! A former administrator, he helped get us into resources (graphics mainly), and helped me with pimping the board in general. Great guy, and great staff member.
DragonHawk- Although he hasn’t been active much lately, DH was known for being the resident noob basher. If anyone wants to find his post about why new members shouldn’t act cocky, read it, and be amazed.
Disturbed- Didn’t contribute much to the pokemon section of the site, or GFX, but he was dedicated throughout!
Fierce Deity- Contributed a good amount to the pokemon section, great guy, and always dedicated.
Ilovemissyelliot- After what he did to supercheats, I will never forget him. He hasn’t been online since then, and I’ve seen no traces of him on any forum I’ve visited, but he’s with BPL in spirit.
Oblivian Groudon- Great GFXer, and a great guy. Probably one of the most dedicated members to the graphics team.
Kichiro- He was a great guy, funny, and cool to be around. He didn’t know too much about netbattle or competitive pokemon, but he was a great in-game resource!
Factor_x55- Relatively knew compared to every other person on this list. Actually, extremely new. One of the only new members who decided to stay because I scouted him! He rated teams and posted pretty frequently.
Locke- The dude was really funny and kind of disappeared without a trace. He was also known as “elusive” which seems to describe him well now.
Bigshot- I’m not sure if I met him when he was a newbie, but I’ve known bigshot throughout most of his netbattle career. He’s been dedicated since he joined, contributed a lot to the pokemon section of the forum, and constantly tried to help.
Kintesh- GFXer who was actually one of the first members of the forum! He originated from resource boards but was interested in the in-game aspect of pokemon. He’s the resident GIMP turned Photoshop negro.
Blade- The best GFXer we’ve had. I can’t possible explain how great he was.
Team KA Leader- An extremely old friend from supercheats. I’ve known him since before BPL started. The Team Untouchable-Team Kickass rivalry is what fueled me to start BPL actually, so all of you have him to thank for a great experience.
Husk1442- Hasn’t visited BPL since December 2006, but he did contribute a good amount when he was here!
Darkbolt- Barely ever posts, but did a lot of moderation when we had e-drama in july 2006! Knows his pokemon well, and made great posts when he did.
Ozzo- Has the “only real female” award. She didn’t really know anything about pokemon at all, but it didn’t stop her from making the BPL experience more pleasant for everyone.
Romboy4000- Did basically nothing, but he stayed with us for a while and posted a good amount.
Tornado212- Same as Romboy, but gave us support!
Teh Dockness- Same as the above two.
Fearlessleaderfatal- One of the regulars from way back in 2005. He left BPL and the internet in general because he joined the military! I salute him!
Retroguy- Fourth member. One of my friends from pre-BPL days, and he was dedicated, although his allegiances did lie with supercheats, unfortunately.
Cheesey- Another one of the 2005 regulars, great guy. He disappeared because of family problems, and I hope he’s doing fine with those.
Overload- Yet another 2005 reg. He came back briefly in 2006 to GFX it up, and contribute a lot. Then he disappeared again…
SnoopJr- One of the old 2005ers, again. He came back briefly in November 2005, I think, but then disappeared.
Bleudrgn2010- One of the BPL originals, I’ll never forget these guys.
Cavetroll- Elited because he was willing to donate to BPL! Although his donation went in vain, I won’t forget how generous he was.
PenguinChomp- One of the 2005 regs! I’ll never forget his upbeat personality.
Bigfreeze11- One of my friends from the Boodasack project… He never posted much on BPL, but he was a great guy and deserves a mention.
Andre_macfoy- Another one of my friends from the Boodasack Project… I loved that place. Same deal as bigfeeze, he deserves a mention, and he did post a lot.
If you honestly think you deserve a mention, IM me. My AIM Screen Name is BleepAllMighty. If you’re not on the list, chances are that you don’t deserve a mention, but I may have forgotten you, so whatever.
Moving on. Now is the incredibly sappy part that I hate to write because I know after I’m done… So is BPL’s life.
I can say right off the bat that Bleepland is probably one of the most successful forums I’ve seen that’s been built from almost nothing. I had 5 initial regulars including myself, and almost no reputation on Netbattle. In our prime, we had over 30 regulars on at any one time, and posting frequently. I never expected it to be as big as it was.
It’s pretty hard letting it go. It’s been such a big part of my life since I started it in eighth grade. I remember last year and the year before looking forward to getting on after tennis practice… I remember being eager to see the massive number of posts, I remember being eager to see the new analysis, and I remember looking forward to having fun.
Slowly… I stopped being eager… It became more of a dreading.
Then I don’t even know. It became more of a ritual to just check if bleepland was dead and post if there were any knew topics.
Guys, it was a great run, and I do wish it could have gone on longer- But lets be real. Most of us lost interest in competitive pokemon, which was the one thing we all shared in common. No one really wanted to post, and that just lead to our downfall.
I won’t forget Bleepland, and I hope none of you will either. Keep in touch.
Long Live Bleepland
Stick together guys, kick some ass.
