Here it is folks, the long awaited 2008 Hall of Fame
*Snickering would be heard at the statement "long awaited", but nobody comes here anymore*
I posted the nominees about a week ago, and after thinking about it, here are your 2008 Hall of Fame inductees.
Yellow
Yellow came to THE Alternative in the middle of 2006, and was part of it's most successful period. Yellow made his debut in NITRT, a type clause tournament, and made an immediate impact beating veteran battler and finalist of the 2006 RBY League, MeThOd in the first round. Yellow then managed to score an upset win against SamG, who was beginning to establish himself as one of the best battlers in THE Alternative. Yellow found himself in the final round of his first tournament, something only four other battlers have done in THE Alternative, with two of those because it was the first tournament, MeThOd who Yellow had beat in the first round, and his opponent, ViL.
Yellow lost 1-0 in a close game, but it was a sign of good things to come for Yellow. Yellow would go on to participate in the revolutionary IRBYT, and qualified to be apart of team USA. From here though, Yellow experienced a drought and wasn't successful in the later tournaments. However, that changed when Yellow managed to make the finals of the 2007 Alternaversary, going up against his good friend SamG in the finals.
This was an interesting tournament in that both SamG and Yellow had yet to win a solo tournament. Yellow lost, but managed to make his second final round appearence in a row, when he reached the finals of the Sticky Feet tournament against TA veteran Billtog, who had never managed to win a tournament before. Yellow lost the battle, and although he never did manage to win a tournament, was a very important part of THE Alternative's boom period.
Yellow was always known for being very supportive of THE Alternative, and wanted to see nothing but success. He helped establish THE Alternative as a site that consisted with original battlers, because of his influential attitude. This is why on August 10th, 2008, THE Alternative welcomes Yellow into the Hall of Fame.
Billtog
One of the true veterans of THE Alternative, Billtog was part of THE Alternative's first tournament, the RPT, back in December of 2005. Billtog came into THE Alternative as a novice battler, and it showed, as he experienced very little success. Billtog would then leave THE Alternative and not come back until August of 2006, during the boom period. Billtog participated in the SEBG tournament, and managed to score a 1-0 over veteran battler BEUD in the first round, netting his first tournament win in 8 months. Billtog faced me in the semi finals, and lost in a close game, but he had a lot of momentum going for him.
Later on, Billtog would participate in THE Alternative's TTS, and formed team THE BANANAS with Cygnus. Their team experienced a lot of problems early on in the tournament, having 0 points in week 3. With seemingly insurmountable odds against them, Billtog and Cygnus managed to finally win, beating team NWA 2 games to 0.
However, in week 4, they had to play team Lidle (me and SamG), in a week 1 rematch. They lost 2 games to 0 to us in the first week, and the same happened here, practically obliterating their chances of advancing into the championship series as the 2nd place team, team K? (Yellow and rekt), had an 11 point lead in week 5.
Though they had their backs on the wall, Billtog and Cygnus got to play team K? in week 5. But, rekt didn't show up so Yellow had to face both of them, and in a huge upset, both Cygnus and Billtog were able to defeat Yellow, meaning they were only 2 points behind in the final week. Billtog and Cygnus needed us to beat team K? and we did, with me being rekt and SamG beating Yellow. With our victories over them, all Cygnus had to do was beat HcM, and he did, sending Billtog and Cygnus into the championship series of the TTS.
Though THE BANANAS lost to us in the finals, they were the only team that managed to beat us, as Billtog managed to beat me and SamG in game 2 of the bo5 series. They didn't win, but Billtog was apart of what is considered the biggest upset in THE Alternative's history.
From his return to THE Alternative in August of '06, Billtog would appear in almost every tournament THE Alternative had, establishing himself as one of the most reliable and consistent members in THE Alternative's history. However, Billtog's tournament success was rather meek, but this changed when he managed to make the finals of the Sticky Feet tournament in August of '07. Billtog was up against Yellow, and neither of these two had yet to win a tournament in THE Alternative.
Billtog scored the win over Yellow, ending his status of being the longest tenured battler in THE Alternative to had never won a tournament. Billtog would prove that he was no fluke, when in the end of August, manged to make his second consecutive final round appearence, making the finals of the BttP, against me. Billtog lost, but certainly made his mark.
Billtog may not have been the best battler in the world, but he's gritty, loves to play, and is one of the main contributors of THE Alternative's success. Welcome to the Hall of Fame Billtog, you deserve it.
