The Beginning
THE Alternative was created on July 16th, 2005. It was originally known as Message Board, which is the default name of a proboard upon its creation. Not knowing how to change the name of a board, I used the nickname of MB when talking about Message Board. MB was created for the purpose of serving as a place where I could post my RBY analyses, a project of mine that failed on GameFAQs about a year ago due to the incredulous amount of trolls and trolling.
The VBR
The VisionBecomesReality tournament, aka the VBR, was a first-of-its-kind tournament which I wanted to be the debut tournament for MB. However, because I was communicating with every participant outside of MB, whether it be on another message board or via e-mail, I decided that it wasn't part of MB despite the fact that I posted rounds 1 and 2 on the tournament forum.

The Death of MB
The VBR concluded in September of 2005. After winning the tournament I was burned out from the coordination and communication it took to maintain a stable tournament, and I was also satisfied with my accomplishment to the point where I felt like there wasn't much left for me to do. So, I decided to leave and THE Alternative, which at this point had now been inactive for about a month, was deemed by me an incomplete experiment. I did not finish making the RBY analyses.
November 2nd
In October I decided to make my return, but I wanted to return with gumption and relive the same impact that I made with launching the VBR tournament. Thus I decided to take advantage of Smogon, a narcissistic Pokemon forum populated by ugly homosexual white children with obnoxious avatars. I had an over-the-top AIM convo with skarm, a troglodyte from Canada who got banned from a Nintendo tournament for openly masturbating. Knowing that he would post it on Smogon's penis enlargement for lonely 13-year olds forum, I received the publicity that I was looking for. In the AIM convo I mentioned that November 2nd would be the big return, and also made this known elsewhere. November 2nd is now a very famous date.
Birth of The Alternative
A day or two before the return was scheduled to happen, Makoscientist had revealed what was going to happen on the return: that I was going to rejuvenate Message Board. But being smarter than the average erudite I used this to my advantage; for I decided to not only treat Message Board as a place where people could discuss RBY, but I made it known that Message Board was going to serve as a competitor to Smogon in regards to RBY. Obviously, Message Board was not going to work in this instance, so I came up with a more felicitous name: The Alternative.
Building The Alternative
Now being watched (literally) by Smogons everywhere, The Alternative was quickly becoming a known site. The main objective was to finish the RBY analyses, which was the main appeal for many of the site's visitors. I also continued the infamous "GGFan's Rants" because they infuriated a lot of people, mostly Smogons and other younger users of Pokemon forums. Incontrovertibly, by establishing The Alternative I was also establishing myself as the biggest thorn in Smogon's backside. Of course, I had no qualms with this.
The Alternative's First Tournament
In December of 2005 I decided it was time to launch The Alternative's debut tournament. Obviously, this wasn't going to be easy because being ostracized from Smogon often meant that you would be ostracized from other sites. But I was not distressed by the lack of support, and my reputation for being unexpectedly resourceful bolstered my resolve. With the help of people who I had met on GameFAQs, Netbattle, and TPM, I managed to acquire 16 people for The Alternative's first tournament: the RPT (RandomPokemonTournament).
The tournament was initially posted on both The Alternative and TPM, but due to the stupidity of certain authorities on TPM I stopped posting it there. In terms of quality the tournament was nothing special with the exception of the final round where, despite being matched up horribly, I nearly managed to beat Chris Watarimono who had a clear and tremendous advantage. Thus, Chris Watarimono has the distinction of winning the first tournament in The Alternative's history. The RPT also marked the debuts for SamG, Slayer, and Billtog: three future staples of The Alternative.

The 2006 RBY League
By the beginning of the year I had finished all the RBY analyses, so the next step was to hold a more serious tournament. The RPT, while successful, was a gimmick tournament. On the now defunct Netbattle forum, an individual by the name of Slayer was promoting an idea he came up with: a league. Having known Slayer for several months (he joined the VBR when he was known as madpsyco535), I directed him to The Alternative and let him effectuate his proposal, which with my guidance turned into the 2006 RBY League.
The 2006 RBY League was very significant for a number of reasons: it was the first competitive tournament in The Alternative's history; it was the first tournament that was launched after the completion of the RBY analyses, so now people were able to always rely on The Alternative instead of Smogon, and it was truly The Alternative's first tournament in the sense that I was not relying on
participation from other forums.
The season ran for 4 weeks. The 4 battlers in each division would play somebody in their respective division each week, and the winningest 2 battlers would advance into their respective DCS (DivisionalChampionshipSeries). Me and SamG won our respective divisions, while Slayer and MeThOd finished in 2nd. The DCS was bo3; they were won by myself and MeThOd, a battler from Smogon and PokeRealm who decided to join The Alternative. I beat Slayer and MeThOd beat SamG in what was considered a bit of an upset, as SamG had gone undefeated in the regular season.
Slayer decided that the Undisputed Championship Series should be a bo7, and b07 it was. Myself and MeThOd had a highly competitive series that provided The Alternative with a very postitive delineation. I defeated MeThOd 4 games to 2 to win the tournament , but the major victory was the victory of knowing that The Alternative had the potential to become a highly successful community because of the 2006 RBY League.

Smogon Steals
In March of 2006 SamG IMd me telling me that he preferred The Alternative's analyses to Smogon's, so I decided to compare the two. I had noticed that Smogon had directly c/pd a section of their Arbok analysis from mine, and I decided to make it known that Smogon had stolen from my analyses. Smogon's actions were viewed as hypocritical because they had complained when PokeRealm was caught stealing from them, and now they had stolen from the forum that was giving them the most trouble. It didn't help Smogon that they still had analyses that weren't posted on their site (Gyarados and Raichu, for instance, were still not on there). Clearly, Smogon was incomplete when it came to RBY and obviously consulted The Alternative for help on on many occasions. I wouldn't have had a problem with this if they had merely cited The Alternative, but that wasn't going to happen.
Despite Smogon's attempts at ostracizing me because I disagreed with their infantile and fatuous authority, I had consistently annoyed and outsmarted them. Because there was so much buildup to
