Nidoking boasts a great movepool, and while he's primarily a UU Pokemon his speed stat makes him serviceable in OU since he's able to outspeed a good portion of the Pokemon. The moveset above enables Nidoking to 3HKO at least everything in the game except for Lapras and Snorlax. The most desireable feature that Nidoking brings to the table is that almost nothing can safely switch in, allowing Body Slam to work its magic.
In UU, Nidoking won't be going first as often but the majority of the Pokemon are not 3HKOd -- they're 2HKOd. Pokemon such as Dodrio, Arcanine, Electabuzz, Mr. Mime, Gyarados and Jolteon can't survive more than 1 hit from Nidoking (a couple of them can set up barriers though).
While Nidoking is very powerful and an immunity to Thunder Wave is very beneficial to his cause, he has a very poor typing; weaknesses to psychic, ice and ground greatly hinder Nidoking's sweeping prospects. Nonetheless, with paralysis support he can come in and tear things apart at any given time.
