So after getting bored and finding my old copy of Pokemon Yellow, I decided to play again. I also decided to try and make a decent team in the process of playing, here's what I've come up with so far.
Starmie: Psychic Surf (Originally Blizzard) Thunderbolt Recover
Alakazam: Psychic Thunder wave (Originally Ice Punch (Traded from Pkmn Silver)) Reflect Recover
Zapdos: Drill Peck Thunderbolt Thunderwave Light Screen
Sandslash: Slash Earthquake Swords Dance Hyper Beam
Chansey: Ice Beam Reflect (Originally Hyper Beam) Thunder wave Softboiled
Exeggutor: Psychic Explosion Mega Drain Sleep Powder
This is the first time I've tried to put together a competitive team, so all advice on both the Pokemon selection and move sets is appreciated.

You should check some of the RBY analysis on the board. Oh and welcome.

thanks for the welcome, and yes I have been looking at the analysis and it has helped a lot. Just looking for some additional input on the team I have so far.
Also edited some of the movesets of the original party. Please feel free to leave comments on the current set.

Alright what are the roles for your team? Ex: Sandslash is a physical sweeper correct?

Starmie is Special Sweeper, covering the bases with three different special attacks along with Recover. Not sure If I should switch back to blizzard to take care of exeggutor threats or not.
Alakazam is a second special sweeper, originally had ice punch on him to add versatility, but switched it back to Thunder Wave to get some paralyzing action going on.
Zapdos is a third special sweeper, using light screen and drill peck to counter special sweepers with low physical defense.
Sandslash is a physical sweeper, swords dance to power up then hack away with STAB EQ. Slash and Hbeam for kill blows and when EQ won't work.
Chansey is a stall, bring it out, T-wave, Reflect, attack with Ice Beam and restore with Softboiled.
Exeggutor is an Annoyer, bring him out, Sleep, then attack with Psychic and restore a little while doing damage with STAB Mega Drain. Explosion to kill off the tough enemies.

I would try to replace mega drain with stun spore for when the other person switches their sleeping pokemon. Psychic should get STAB since Exeggutor is part psychic if I remember correctly. I suggest getting another Physical sweeper and replace Starmie with it, since you already have two SS which should be enough. Chansey, I would replace reflect with T-bolt and if you still want Reflect, replace T-wave for it. Counter is also another option but T-wave is more rounded and covers more situation than the other two. Sandslash and alakazam look fine.

Starmie: Psychic Surf (Originally Blizzard) Thunderbolt Recover
Starmie needs Thunderwave, drop either Surf or Psychic for it. Also, Blizzard helps for hitting Exeggutor who otherwise walls Starmie.
Alakazam: Psychic Thunder wave (Originally Ice Punch (Traded from Pkmn Silver)) Reflect Recover
Standard/10
Zapdos: Drill Peck Thunderbolt Thunderwave Light Screen
Reflect can work over Light Screen but standard/10.
Sandslash: Slash Earthquake Swords Dance Hyper Beam
Standard, but Body Slam can work too.
Chansey: Ice Beam Reflect (Originally Hyper Beam) Thunder wave Softboiled
I like Thunderbolt, delete Thunderwave or Reflect for it.
Exeggutor: Psychic Explosion Mega Drain Sleep Powder
Stun Spore can work over Mega Drain.
Needs more physical power, get Tauros with Blizzard/Body Slam/Earthquake/Hyper Beam on here posthaste. I would drop Sandslash for it. No team can ever go wrong with Snorlax, which you can dump Starmie, Alakazam or Zapdos for.
